Love this idea, simple and would easily give more control for blocking hammering attempts. Currently using Enable abuse detection and prevention option under localhost Policies.

Thank you for responding. I do agree that the closing of the connection is due to a timeout. I find it odd that I would need to pass a \r\n.\r\n or a \r\n\r\n on the end of the body of my message that I pass to the .NET framework class method smtpClient.Send(message).
