Re: does ME support mail aliases?

Hi all, this is something i asked about a while back (before 2.0 was released). I'm wondering if 2.0 supports mail aliases? for example, if you have a gmail address of something@gmail.com, you can also use something+abc@gmail.com as your address. You can append anything after the plus mark and it w...

HELP! My domain is being "joe-jobbed"

For the past two weeks, I've been getting bounce messages in my catchall address because some spammer is forging random addresses at my domain as his sender address. I cannot turn off catchall because I have given out hundreds of unique addresses by which I can be reached. Each unique address is pre...

How do you verify the domain existence with ME Pro? I get many spam messages with bogus from addresses like "great offer" or "great.offer", this check would help me get rid of them. There is a tab called "Security" in the SMTP connector properties. Under that tab, the option that you want is called...

Provide DNS Service as Part of MailEnable

How about providing a DNS-based blacklist service using something like rbldnsd* ( http://www.corpit.ru/mjt/rbldnsd.html ) as the basis for it? Creating a local DNS-based blacklist server based on rbldnsd format files would allow MailEnable to scrap proprietary code for processing SMTP Deny blacklist...

Re: Better spam filtering

one big thing is missing in the MailEnable Enterprise Edition. The integration of a good spam filter like SpamAssassin. That's a very bad spam filter because it is applied after the spam is received and it has already wasted your bandwidth. The idea when fighting spam is to block it so that your ma...

Need greater control over SMTP log file entries.

I currently have my DNS blacklists configured (via the registry entry) to deny on connect. I also have IP addresses in the SMTP-DENY.tab file. Dealing with a couple of persistent Asian spammers has revealed a problem: Each time that a connection is denied, an entry gets written to the SMTP activity ...

We have begun extending the schema for banned IP addresses to include a description, expiry etc (in fact it was commenced some time ago). The reason it was/has not been released is because some third party applications had issues with the extended schema. That's great news! As you know, I've been w...

MailEnable wrote:Which TAB file did you add this too?
I entered it right through the MMC interface for the SMTP properties under Access Control.

Thanks for the quick response, by the way.

It looks like comments can be used already!

As an experiment, I added a record to my access control list. It was:

Code: Select all

203.73.229.82 Taiwanese spammer. Won't go away.
It worked! Subsequent attempts by the persistent spammer were denied.

MailEnable team: Is this by design? Does this kind of commented entry pose any potential problems?

Actuall, that's a good suggestion. And as a developer, it's NO problem to put that in place... since there's already a check in place everything's in place to just output that data instead of doing nothing further with it. Nice!!! Thanks. I'm a developer, too (20+ years in embedded systems). I figu...

New Option: No SMTP Service For IP Addresses on Blacklists

There are currently two options for dropping connections after a DNS blacklist is found to list the IP address connected to the MailEnable server: 1. Drop after the RCPT to. This results in a "554 Message refused" response. 2. Drop at connect, which results in a "421 ESMTP Service refused connection...

Indicate On Which Blacklist an IP Address Was Found

When one changes the registry setting so that blacklisted IP addresses are dropped at connection time, the message that appears in the activity log after a drop is like the following example: 421 ESMTP Service refused connection at 10/02/05 22:40:58 because source IP (217.8.81.146) appears in blackl...

Thanks, Andrew, for that very quick investigation and reply.

I figured that it was probably not a cause for serious concern, but I just hate mysteries when it comes to computers.

MMC Problem: Is it just my installation?

(Originally posted to Pro, but thought that it might also be applicable to Standard) While using the ME management console, I highlighted, in the left hand pane: MailEnable/MailEnable Management/Servers/Connectors/SMTP/Logs/Activity I then selected the "View" drop-down menu. There was a mysterious,...
