Then you have to explain to customers (like in my case) that they need to relay off my server to use their domain name in the From: and they must use SMTP authentication and they must use a mail client that supports alternate SMTP port.... whew! Fortunately, almost all mail programs support alterna...

I can at least give you an answer for the "white-list vs ptr" issue from my own experience. ... But the end result was requiring a ptr record out weighed white-listing, at least in my case. Thanks! That's a great help -- and disappointing news. I agree with you that whitelisting should overrule the...

A bunch of people have already read this thread. Doesn't anyone know the answer?

Blacklisting/whitelisting/SPF/PTR/etc. rules of precedence.

I've posed this to the MailEnable team as a private inquiry but thought that I might be able to save them some time and get it publically documented for others: What are the rules of precedence for whitelisting? I know that whitelists take precedence over blacklists such that a whitelisted mail serv...

Further info

Importing the "White List" registry entries from an install of the older version did not fix the problem. As soon as I tried to add an item, I got the error and lost the entry that I had imported.

I think it's a real bug this time.

Can't create Whitelist Entries: SOLVED!!! Thanks ME Team!

It turns out that there was a bug in the first release of 1.5 beta. The ME development team quickly solved the problem and posted a new beta 1.5 Pro. Although the release number and the date have not changed on the beta download page, the executable for beta 1.5 has. So download it and try it out. ...

Re: Yes, Cox blocks outbound port 25.

Cox blocks outbound port 25 for all residential users. While I wish that they would unblock it by request, blocking by default is the correct thing to do given the number of spams, viruses, and worms that spread through connections which do not have port 25 blocked. Well if that's the new "trend" t...

Okay I just sent this out to my resellers list. This will hopefully start the process of bringing customers "in house" so to speak when they are sending mail. I just enabled "Allow relay of authenticated senders" on the server - somehow that option escaped my feeble mind. That was a well-crafted le...

No, you're a decent guy doing the right thing -- even though it will cause a little pain in the short term. Thanks.

Re: MailEnable Pro 1.5 beta -- GREAT GOING!

Basically, you don't want them to use the SMTP server at their work, college, etc. to send while using an address that you provide. Otherwise the e-mail will be rejected by SFP-aware SMTP servers. Okay, now this is the problem. I run a web hosting company (albeit small) with 80 domains and about 45...

Re: MailEnable Pro 1.5 beta -- GREAT GOING!

How, out of curiosity, would you go about setting up an SPF record? I've never worked with the SPF protocol and if anyone wouldn't mind sharing some info would be great! An SPF record is simply a text record in DNS. The easiest way to formulate the record is to go to http://spf.pobox.com/ , use the...

MailEnable Pro 1.5 beta -- GREAT GOING!

I've been using MailEnable Pro 1.5 beta and am thrilled with it! Two VERY important features have been added: 1. Blocking email addresses at the SMTP service -- This means that you can have a catch-all account and still block addresses that spammers hit. I've put in about a dozen already and it's wo...

Ah, but there is a reason...

Why would you need to update the blocked list. If SPF find the details as bad, it will get bounced, should be no further need for blacklisting. Because the next time they send, they might choose a From: address which is on a domain with no SPF record. Then your mail server will accept it. Suppose t...

Just for my own culture (and probably others). With SPF, when an e-mail comes in, it does it check the originating MTA IP/domain for valid SPF records. It checks for SPF records associated with the purported sender's domain. So, if I were to receive an e-mail purporting to be from bob@yourdomain.tl...

SPF in 1.5? Please!

IMAP will be removed from the beta page within the next few days and will be released into RC1 of Pro V1.5 along with Filtering and poss. SPF. Enterprise Edition is intended to follow early next week. I really hope that SPF makes it into 1.5. That's probably the most significant anti-spam technolog...
