I run an email server that I am converting to SendMail Standard. The server supports users that login from a short list of ISP's (about 4). I'd like to configure relay options that allow users from those specific ISP's to relay mail.
I'd prefer not to check the "Allow relay for authenticated users" option because not all mail readers support that option and that will generate a lot of support calls.
I'd like to use the "Allow relay for priviledged IP ranges" option and enter part of the ISP's domain name, eg
*.isp123.com
*.isp456.com
This way I don't have to keep track of the isp's ip addresses. The box lets me type this in but I'm not confident it will work.
Is this ok? Am I making sense? Is there a better way? Thanks.

No, this wouldn't work. MailEnable requires IP addresses for this. You can use wildcards to indicate ranges though (as in 192.168.0.*) which makes it easier. In order to support *.isp123.com a DNS lookup for a reverse entry would need to be done, and may not support all domains (i.e. they may not have reverse entries for their dialup accounts).
