How improve failed email reason messages?

Post by dougtpx27 »

I use Classic ASP programs to email newsletters from my server and use from addresses that are defined within Mailenable

When emails fail they come back through Mailenable and are forwarded to my personal email address so I can remove undeliverable addresses from my database. Sometimes the reason for the failure are clear (ie account disabled - or user not found)

The following confuses me:

MailEnable: Message could not be delivered to some recipients.
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

Recipient: [SMTP:billscopyshop@yahoo.com]
Reason: General Failure

Sometimes the email address that just failed will be undeliverable but usually it is not

Is there any setting I can change in Mailenable to I get a more descriptive failure reason?

Usually, the recieving e-mail server is choosing what error message to bounce back. You'd have to contact them to be more clear about the reason for your e-mails bouncing.

If you're lucky there's some information in the headers if the original e-mail is sent back, but not a lot of providers do that.
