.lock

Post by kruger@sanarchitect.net »

I keep getting .lock in certain peoples folders and it seems
that they cannot access there mail when this happens..
the only way to get mail to start working again for that user
is to shut down the entire system. and delete the files
any help??

The templock file is created when a user logs in via POP3. It is deleted when they log out. In some circumstances the server does not detect that the user has disconnected, and does not delete the file immediately. This file is then deleted after the time specified in POP timeout (POP options).

There was a bug with versions before 1.5 where this was not always the case (sometimes if you rebooted the server when users were connected). Check you version by running the Diagnostic utility. If you are running version 1.5 or later, make sure the time period for retry is greater than the POP timeout. Failing all this, a restart of the POP service would be necessary and you should send you logs (Mail Enable\Logging\POP) to support@mailenable.com so we can see what the problem is, and fix it.

You can upgrade by running the new version. It is always best to backup your data when doing this. There is a backup utility at the following link:

http://www.mailenable.com/support/mebackup.zip

More details about how a backup works can be found by searching for backup in the online knowledgebase on our web site.

The install will keep all your emails and configuration data, and we also suggest you check your configuration options (relay settings, etc.) after you perform the upgrade.
