How to update Registry Key to stop redirecting SPAM

Post by solucionmike » Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:43 am

Hi,
I need advise on exactly how to add a new Registry key on Windows Server 2019 with MaileEnable 10.31 to prevent the Post Office connector redirecting users Emails even though they have been flagged as SPAM.

I read a forum post that provided these instructions below but I am not sure they are 100% correct in my environment, here is that post:

The solution to prevent the above behaviour occurring on redirections destined for the Junk E-Mail folder is to create the following registry key, and restart the postoffice connector service:

For 64bit servers:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SF]
"Redirect Junk Mail"=dword:00000000

In the above example I am not sure if the sub-key under /SF should named "Redirect Junk Mail" with double quotation mark or a sub-key named as Redirect Junk Mail (without the double quotation mark) (it accepts both though, but I have not noticed any other names with quotes in the Registry)

Also how do I interpret =dword:00000000 as is this a Type = dword , and a data value 00000000 (8 zeros)

When I create The new Sub-key it automatically gives a value of Name: Default Type: REG_SZ and Value not set. Double clicking that does not give me the option to select DWORD, so I guess I should create a new value DWORD 32 bit value with data of the (8 zeros) right (and delete the default one right?, but what name do I call that new entry (it does not allow blank) - should it be called Redirect Junk Mail too?

Then i have further doubts do I really need a new sub-key or just new DWORD value in the /SF folder called
Redirect Junk Mail
Type=DWORD
Data: 00000000

Some clarification would be great thanks.
And excuse my knowledge on these matters.
Thanks
Mike

Hi,

I've been searching for a solution to stop redirecting spam by MaileEnable and found this thread. Does anyone have updates on this?

Thanks,
Behzad

Hi again,
I have not heard back from anybody, so I went ahead and just added a new data value (not a key) under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SF
as follows :
Name=Redirect Junk Mail
Type=REG_DWORD
Value=00000000
and restarted the Post Office Connector.
I will see if that helps.
If not I can add always a new key called Redirect Junk Mail and a value but the MailEnable instructions don't give a name value we should use if is under a new (sub) key.
Would be nice if someone knows.
Thanks
Mike

Hi,

Please see: https://www.mailenable.com/kb/content/article.asp?ID=ME020480

You don't need the quotation marks. Also the set the decimal value for the DWORD to 0 for disabled and 1 for enabled.

Hi Ian,
That link states:
"create the following registry key"
Are you sure its not just a data value under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SF
(which is what i added)
If there is a new (sub) key required- then I will need also the NAME, type and data value for it (as Regedit does not allow data name to be blank).
should it be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SF\Redirect Junk Mail\
with a data value:
Name=Redirect Junk Mail
Type=REG_DWORD
Value=0
i.e. the subkey name and data name is the same?
Thanks
Mike

Hi,

There is no sub key required. You need to create a DWORD key under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mail Enable\Mail Enable\Connectors\SF

Thanks so much Ian,
I added that initially anyway.
It does not seem to work, i just deleted the data value and setup again but this time restarted all ME services.
Will advise if still does not work.
Thanks again.

Hi Ian,
I added the data value as instructed and the mailbox redirect still passes even though Email header has this:
X-ME-CountryOrigin: RU
X-ME-Bayesian: 0.000000
X-ME-Spam: High (465)
X-ME-Content: Deliver-To=Junk
X-Spam-Report: Failed

I guess new SF key data value does not work, has anyone had any success?
Is there other options to stop this happening?
Thanks
Mike

Hi,

Your best way forward would be to lodge a support ticket and provide copies of the postoffice connector activity and debug log files along with the example message.

Hi Ian,
Will do, unfortunately I deleted all the Emails in the Outbound queues (showing these symptoms) , I will wait for more of these redirected emails waiting in the outbound queue with the SPAM Failed header, so we have all the info.
Thanks again.
