cheapest SSL certificate? CA authority?
I saw how I could pay over $500 for and SSL cert thru Verisign http://www.verisign.com/products/site/secure/index.html . I know there are other cheaper certificate authorities out there - curious as to what other people recommend.
I know you can create your own (see http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;248107 ) but I am assuming more people would have confidence if we used a third party certificate that can be verified better. Some credit card transactions may happen at this site so I do want the communication encypted.
Any advice on this one?

We use THAWTE certificates. They are part of VeriSign, but at a lower cost Go to www.thawte.com
Re: Comodo
yes, it is cheaper, but it is a chained certificate, which means yoy need to have the intermediate certificates installed and sometimes that creates issues with some browsers.fdickey wrote:Check out Comodo...they are at a MUCH lower cost. http://www.instantssl.com
The best thing is to go with anyone that has their own root CA as Geotrust or verisign or Thawte

I would suggest using single root certs like RapidSSL, they are pretty cheap & compatible with 99% browsers.

We've used the Godaddy certs. They go for $14.95 a pop. I noticed tthat he previous poster had certs for as low as $12 bucks. I've not seen anything cheaper than that (other than the ocasional free offers)MrMMills wrote:I saw how I could pay over $500 for and SSL cert thru Verisign http://www.verisign.com/products/site/secure/index.html . Re: cheapest SSL certificate? CA authority?
Wildcard SSL certificates give the user an authenticated access to use multiple sub-domains from the same certificate. This makes the procedure less expensive as you don’t have to set up different certificates to administer various domains of a single website.

Use http://www.startssl.com/
Price: $0.00 (free)
I've used them for years and like them. I've setup ME to use their certificate and had no real issues. If you're a small business, or personal shop, the SSL cert fees from the "big guys" are crazy.

Re: cheapest SSL certificate? CA authority?
Cheap SSL certificate is one of them and it is very important for your small or large scale enterprises. The word cheap here stands for a low priced product or the name of the product. Many people confuse it with low quality products which are wrong. There are different types of SSL certificates available in the market and one should buy them for the best level of security for their business. Some other popular types are the wildcard certificates and EV certificate and much more. These are necessary services for the secure online transaction of data and information.
