Does the ClamAV service need to be running?

Post by previn »

Hi,

We use Mail Enable 9.50 - Enterprise Edition.

I was notified today when logging on to the server, that the "ClamWin Free Antivirus Scanner Service" (which was installed and is used by Mail Enable) had stopped. Not sure why it had, but I just started it again, so it wasn't a big deal. The ClamWin Database Updater service hadn't gone down.

But I was wondering whether the scanner service needs to be running for Mail Enable to be able to use ClamAV to scan e-mails? Because, if Mail Enable doesn't need the service to be running (maybe it just runs a ClamAV exe passing it the file to scan), I'll stop it and save a few hundred MB's of RAM on the server!

Regards,

Previn

The ClamAV daemon service needs to be running. Each time that ME AV batch file runs it passes the message to the Daemon.
