[SOLVED] SPF tests not checking for PTR with btinternet.com addresses

Post by garyrowswell »

Hi,

It appears MailEnable SPF tests are not checking the PTR mechanism within a domains SPF rules.

e.g. sender with btinternet.com address which itself has "v=spf1 ip4:65.20.0.0/24 include:bt.com include:_spf.mail.yahoo.com ~all" and _spf.mail.yahoo.com = "v=spf1 ptr:yahoo.com ptr:yahoo.net ?all"

That results in "transitioning domain of btinternet.com does not designate 67.195.87.232 as permitted sender" but it should be permitted because of the PTR

Hi,

This was a problem that has been addressed in the following SMTP hot fixes:

https://www.mailenable.com/hotfix/MESMTPC_32.zip
https://www.mailenable.com/hotfix/MESMTPC_64.zip

To install:

1) Stop your SMTP service
2) Rename the files named MESMTPC.EXE in the Mail Enable\bin and Mail Enable\bin64 directory (this will allow you to roll back this update)
3) Download and extract the MESMTPC_32.zip file to the Mail Enable\bin directory.
4) Download and extract the MESMTPC_64.zip file to the Mail Enable\bin64
directory (if it exists)
5) Start the SMTP services and check

Let us know it goes.
