[SOLVED] 10.17 Install not working

Post by rfwilliams777 »

It gets to "installing resources and libraries" and after 15 minutes it was still there. I look at the Task Manager and nothing is happening. I was able to reboot the server and go back to 10.16.

Hi,

If you are getting the installer pausing, it may be that the installer cannot close/stop the application pools under IIS (which is needs to do in order to replace the files). You can confirm this by checking the MEInstall.log file in the Mail Enable\bin directory. It will have the line below as the last line:

7/13/2018 10:27:40 AM Command Line Arguments: "C:\PROGRA~2\MAILEN~1\bin\MEINST~1.EXE" [Password] STOP

This line indicates it is trying to stop[ the application pools. To fix, check task manager and kill any process running under the IME_SYSTEM user account. If there is none, check whether IIS service is stopped. If it is set to "stopping" then this would likely cause the issue. You would be best to reboot and check that you can stop/start IIS properly. If you are in the middle of an install, killing the meinstaller.exe process should allow the installer to continue, but you may need to do this a couple of time when it gets stuck. After install, then reboot and use the meinstaller.exe from the MailEnable\bin directory to reset the webmail (the other core services are not affected by this issue, except for ActiveSync).

Still did not work. I stopped about every service on the server and it either was "Stopping" or stopped. Still the installer would get part way in the installation and not go continue.

After manually stopping the IIS service we we able to upgrade our installation to version 10.17.

Hi,

We have been looking into this and the issue is related to a Microsoft update that causes problems when IIS worker processes need to be shutdown. Microsoft has released a new patch for this. Please see the following:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... erver-2012 - Addresses an issue that occurs when an administrator tries to stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC). The W3SVC remains in a "stopping" state, but cannot fully stop or it cannot be restarted.
https://forums.iis.net/t/1239061.aspx?I ... 18+patches

Therefore, please run Windows Updates and update the server to address the issue and then run the MailEnable installer again.
