The fact that you can authenticate and send using Outlook means that the SMTP Server is functioning correctly. The problem is most likely that other remote SMTP servers do not know how to locate your SMTP Server. (Otherwise, check the activity logs on the SMTP Server to determine why their mail is not getting though).

The most likely answer is that remote servers are not able to locate the MX DNS record for your domain. If so, this is a DNS configuration issue and is something that needs to be resolve irrespective of which mail server you are using.

The simplest way to verify this is to go to the cmd prompt and use the NSLOOKUP utility. (this utility allows you to query DNS). Instructions follow:

1. Go to the command prompt and type NSLOOKUP
2. At the ">" prompt enter the following "set type=mx"
3. At the ">" prompt enter the name of your registered domain name (eg: "yourdomain.com")
4. At the ">" prompt type "exit"

It should have returned something in the order of:

Non-authoritative answer:
mailenable.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.mailenable.com

mailenable.com nameserver = NS2.PSYLONNOVA.com
mailenable.com nameserver = NS1.PSYLONNOVA.com
mail.mailenable.com internet address = 64.239.38.28

If NSLOOKUP did not return an MX record then it is unlikely that remote SMTP hosts will be able to determine the IP address of your server from the domain name.

More information on configuring DNS is available on the Microsoft web site.

Please let us know if this does not solve your problem.

Thanks.

number one thanks for the super fast response

ok heres the deal when i did the the NSLOOKUP

it resolves i get this result

all-n-one.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = all-n-one.com
all-n-one.com internet address = 24.243.49.45

but i didnt get the 2 lines about the name servers
so my questions being this is definatly a dns issue right ?

so where do i need to go from here
please point me in the right direction
thanks again

DNS Issues

Post by MailEnable »

Need to know who is hosting your DNS. I did a resolution and it reported that you are using DNS2GO.... In any case, it does not matter.

You need to define a mail exchanger record that points to the IP address of your ME server. If you are using DNS2GO, there are posts in the forum that explain how to set up DNS and mail exchangers. If you host your own DNS server, then you can define the MX record on that server.

Your current mail exchanger record holds all-n-one.com which is resolving to "Pinging all-n-one.com [24.243.169.49] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 24.243.169.49: bytes=32 time=291ms TTL=39"

This server does not appear to be running an SMTP server (MailEnable).

In short, find out who/what server is hosting your DNS and configure an MX record in DNS that points to the server that is running ME.

yes i m using DNS2go the all-n-one.com domain is set to the ns1.dns2go.com
ns2.dns2go.com
nameserver so in the Mailenable program do i need the DNS numbers handed down by my ISP or the DNS2go programs where the domain is pointed to right now i have it set to the dns2go DNS numbers
so how do i go by setting up a MX record for this
