How to debug the HTTPMail protocol using the Outlook Express Maintenance tools

SUMMARY

How to debug the HTTPMail protocol using the Outlook Express Maintenance tools.

DETAIL

Once an Outlook Express profile has been configured to use the HTTP protocol to access mail, it is possible to debug mail sessions using the Outlook Express Maintenance tools. These tools are found under Tools|Options|Maintenance (Under the troubleshooting section, check HTTP).

Once this setting is enabled, whenever HTTPMail is used from within Outlook Express, the entire session will be logged to a text file called HTTPMail.log.  The log file is usually stored under Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\Guide\Microsoft\Outlook Express folder. (This is where all Outlook Express messages and folders are stored).

To enable logging in Outlook, navigate to the following location: Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Enable email logging.  This will log the session to a text file in the following path:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp\Outlook Logging\[account]
