SUMMARY
This article explains how to configure an Android devices email client to
send/receive messages using the MailEnable services.
DETAIL
Configuring an Androids default email client to send/receive
message via the SMTP and POP services:
- On the Android device navigate to the "Email" client.
- Within the Android "Settings" window click on "Add Account"
- Specify the email address and password for the mailbox
- The "Manual setup" button will be available once the email address and
password has been specified. Click on the "Manual setup" button.
- Select "POP3"
Incoming server settings window:
- Specify the username for the mailbox. e.g., mailboxname@postofficename
- Specify the mailbox password
- Specify the POP3 server. e.g., mail.example.com
- Specify type. i.e., If SSL is enabled for the MailEnable POP service
then select SSL otherwise leave as "None".
- Specify the port number POP3 is listening on the MailEnable server. i.e.,
default is port 110
- Set the method of deleting messages on device: i.e., if you do
not want messages to be removed from the server when deleting from the
device then select the option "Never".
- Click Next
Outgoing server settings window:
- Specify the SMTP server. e.g., mail.example.com
- Specify the "Security Type". i.e., If SSL or TLS is enabled for the
MailEnable SMTP service then select SSL, TLS or STARTTLS otherwise
leave as "None".
- Specify the port number that the SMTP service is listening on. i.e.,
Default port is 25.
- Tick the option "Require sign-in"
- Specify the username. e.g., mailboxname@postofficename
- Specify the mailbox password.
- Click Next
Account options window:
- Set the "Inbox checking frequency. i.e., Default is every 15 minutes.
- Tick the option "Notify me when email arrives" if you want to be
notified of new message arrivals.
- Tick the option for "Sync email from this account".
- Click Next
Account is set up, and email is on its way! window:
- Specify an account name (optional)
- Finally specify the name that is to be displayed on outgoing messages.
- Click Next.
Configuring an Androids default email client to send/receive
message via the IMAP and SMTP services:
- On the Android device navigate to the "Email" client.
- Within the Android "Settings" window click on "Add Account"
- Specify the email address and password for the mailbox
- The "Manual setup" button will be available once the email address and
password has been specified. Click on the "Manual setup" button.
- Select "IMAP"
Incoming server settings window:
- Specify the username for the mailbox. e.g.,
mailboxname@postofficename
- Specify the mailbox password
- Specify the IMAP server. e.g., mail.example.com
- Specify type. i.e., If SSL is enabled for the MailEnable POP service then
select SSL otherwise leave as "None".
- Specify the port number POP3 is listening on the MailEnable server.
i.e., default is port 143
- Leave the "IMAP path prefix" blank.
- Click Next
Outgoing server settings window:
- Specify the SMTP server. e.g., mail.domainname.com
- Specify the "Security Type". i.e., If SSL or TLS is enabled for
the MailEnable SMTP service then select SSL, TLS or
STARTTLS otherwise leave as "None".
- Specify the port number that the SMTP service is listening on.
i.e., Default port is 25.
- Tick the option "Require sign-in"
- Specify the username. e.g., mailboxname@postofficename
- Specify the mailbox password.
- Click Next
Account options window:

- Tick the option for "Sync email from this account".
- Tick the option for "Automatically download attachments when connected to
Wi-Fi". - Refer to Android documentation for more information about this
option.
- Click Next
Account is set up, and email is on its way! window:
- Specify an account name (optional)
- Finally specify the name that is to be displayed on outgoing messages.
- Click Next.
