OCSP Stapling Support for TLS/SSL in MailEnable

Post by franzs »

Hi everyone,

my name is Franz and I am a student of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Currently, Currently, I am writing my Master's thesis on certificate revocation.

As a part of the thesis, we have scanned the complete IPv4 address space for well-known ports such as 25, 110, 465 and 993 and tried to establish TLS/SSL connections at these ports. Furthermore, we sent Certificate Status requests, also known as OCSP Stapling requests. We found several servers supporting this relatively new TLS/SSL extension and the majority of the servers ran on Microsoft Exchange. However, we also found a couple of hundred installations of MailEnable supporting OCSP Stapling as well.We know that Microsoft has enabled OCSP Stapling by default in IIS since 2008 but thus far we have no information about the support of MailEnable for OCSP Stapling.

Is MailEnable utilizing the underlying TLS/SSL infrastructure of Microsoft Windows for OCSP Stapling as well or is it implemented separately?

Thank you very much for your help!
