MXScan gateway recipient verification?

Post by mahonri »

This may be more of a MailEnable question than an MXScan one.

We are looking at MailEnable with MXScan as a replacement for our BSD/Postfix inbound gateway. The one feature it seems to be missing is recipient verification. On our current system, we have a list of valid recipients so that email for nonexistent addresses is dropped with a 550 error in the SMTP session at the gateway and not accepted only to be bounced later.

Does anyone know a way to do something similar with MXScan and/or MailEnable? We are talking about mailboxes hosted on Exchange with MailEnable as the front end.

Thanks,
David

Hi David

Any recipient verification would need to take place at MailEnable during the SMTP session for the connection to be dropped and 550 returned. As an MTA Event application, MXScan does not have access to the SMTP session.

To do what you need the frontEnd gateway would most likely need to have a LDAP connector to the backend Exchange server so that it would query directory for the recipient information. I do not believe this is available in ME acting as a smarthost

cheers
