When running Windows Server 2008, web mail users receive "Address Resolution" errors when sending messages.


SYMPTOMS

When running Windows Server 2008, web mail users receive "Address Resolution" errors when sending email messages.

CAUSE

The cause of this is some server service roles are not enabled by default, and prohibit web mail services from running correctly.

RESOLUTION

To stop this error you need to add the following Windows services to the server. More details on the options can be found in the Microsoft documentation;

Web Server (IIS)

 The following role services are required:

 Management Tools

   - IIS 6 Management Compatibility

   - IIS Metabase Compatibility

   - IIS 6 WMI Compatibility

   - IIS 6 Scripting Tools

   - IIS 6 Management Console
